Artemis Fowl Books

 

So I am currently reading my 7th Artemis Fowl book (the last in the series- THANK GOD).  I hate these books (which are full of really bad 12-year old boy humor like farting and a weird cross between science fiction and fantasy) but have been reading along with the 12-year old boy so we can "talk about them" every day.  I am SO glad to be almost done with this final book!  I've also had to pretend to enjoy the books, since the point of me reading along is to keep the kid enthusiastic about reading.

I think we're going to read The Hobbit next... it has to be better (anything would be better)

BEIJING!!!!

Great Wall of China- here I come!
Somehow Angela and I managed to talk our boss into letting us swap out a random day off in May for a day off in April in order to give us 6 consecutive days off, so I just purchased my plane tickets to Beijing so I can fulfill my dream of seeing the Great Wall of China!
Fingers crossed that it won't be too smoggy with pollution to see anything (as it can get there)... I can't wait for my first big solo travel adventure!
 I will be going April 4-9th which is soon, so I better start reading some guide books.  Thankfully Angela and Christopher were just there over Christmas and can give me lots of tips!

Reminder Hat

So the youngest boy REALLY wanted me to take a look at this really big tree that is at the Hong Kong Country Club (where the family belongs).   Since I ride past the Country Club every day after work he kept asking me if I saw it yet, and even wrote me an email (with help) over the weekend to ask me if I saw it.  (I forgot to look).  So at the end of the day today he made me a hat that would ensure I remembered! (all his own idea) As you can see, it had a tag RIGHT IN MY FACE that said "Big Tree".  I was instructed to wear it until I got on the bus and then look out the window the whole time.  I even signed a "contract" that I would keep the hat on.
Kids are the greatest. 
Did I see the big tree today on the way home?  Maybe, but it wasn't really that big, so maybe I missed it....

Hike to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir

What a beautiful Sunday!  Went for another hike right outside my front door (well, across some streets and up a hill)... This time I made it to the Pok Fun Lam Reservoir. Sometimes I forget that I'm living in a jungle (or next to one).  It's warming up and that makes me very happy.  Wonder how long I can go without using the air conditioning?
I had a restful weekend- cleaned my apartment, had my toilet fixed by a plumber who didn't speak English, did some cooking, read and took a nap.  I also went and saw "The Artist" last night (meh.) 
Just 2 more weeks until I'll be home!!!!

Foggy day at the Peak

This would be the view of the city

I took Susan to the Peak last weekend but it was too foggy to see the view (which is the main reason to go up there).  However, the tram was fun and we took a short hike around the top.

Martial Arts Show

A few weekends ago I went to this free martial arts show (put on my the HK tourism board) in Kowloon Park that happens every Sunday. The kids were super impressive and I just love watching dragon dancing!
