I've been taking luke-warm/cold showers since I got here, and finally (yesterday) a guy came and installed a new hot water heater! The hot water is different here, it's this small box on the wall that you turn on from a light switch right before you are going to use hot water, and you immediately have hot water. I even got to take my first bath in my mini-bath tub (which was great). Hooray for hot water!
