A (free) museum all about jail! Fun? I checked this out today after work and learned some things about the history of jails in Hong Kong. Many British people were held prisoners of war in Stanley during the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong (during WWII). Also, many people fled to Hong Kong from Vietnam during the Vietnam War and they were held in the jails as well and they started several riots. The museum had some really depressing exhibits such as a "flogging" station and photos of be-headings, which makes me not want to take the boys there on a field trip. However, the boys live RIGHT NEXT to the Stanley Jail, so it would be good for them to learn some history about it. The photos below show the jail fence we walk by every day to get to work. For Fun Friday today, we started a time line dating back to 1900. We had some good discussions with the boys about Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, WWII, the holocaust and the civil rights movement. I'm so glad we get the chance on Fridays to fill some of the holes these boys have in their education!
