    at some point, Mudshark was mass-producing these waving cats for someone... what do they mean?

    Good question. According to wiki (i just looked) they are actually Japanese... and called Maneki Neko and they bring good luck. They are always in shop windows- facing to the street. And (whoops) they are not "waving" but beckoning you to come.
