Watching the Swifts in Portland
The swifts are a group of migrating birds that sleep in hallowed out things- like trees or chimneys and they revisit the same places each year as they migrate (correct me, mom, if I'm explaining this incorrectly). So every Fall they come to this school in Portland and sleep in this chimney and crowds of people gather every night to watch them swarm and fly around as one by one they dive into the chimney to go to bed. It's incredible (they look sort of like bats flying around) and impossible to portray in a picture. The sunset and Mount Adams in the background made it a perfect night for swift watching on Sunday night!
