Peaks Island

Adam's mom and a friend started this adorable gift shop on the island

there are tons of golf carts (of all shapes and sizes) on the island

I really love Peaks Island- although the ferry schedule drives me insane!  The ferry comes every hour except for when they take their lunch break and their dinner breaks (around noon and 5pm) in which case you have to wait 2 hours!  You always have to be thinking about the ferry schedule and planning ahead if you don't want to get stuck!

Home from Maine!

We got in yesterday afternoon and caught a beautiful view of Mt. Rainer as we landed!  Had a wonderful trip but it always feels good to be home.  What nice weather we are having in Olympia!  I'm going to an orientation for my new job tomorrow afternoon and hopefully starting Friday or next week.

John and Erin's wedding

What a beautiful and yummy wedding!  We are so lucky to have been able to go to John and Erin's wedding while we are in Maine.  It was a small wedding (35 people) at this great restaurant/venue in an old mill in Brunswick.  Erin made all of the decorations and it looked fabulous!   We sat across from a really nice couple who actually made all the pies for the dessert (which were awesome: apple, lemon meringue and chocolate) and who are getting married in a month.  A wonderful evening!

Lobster and Lighthouses

and a whoopie pie too

Last weekend we went into town for some lobster rolls at a famous lobster shack (with a long line) with our friend John and Erin (who are getting married tonight!)  It couldn't have been a nicer day to sit outside, eat some lobster and explore the beach!  We're getting amazing weather in Maine.

Wedding Date!

We have a date for the wedding!  After some stress and mis-communication with Millersylvania State Park, we finally have a weekend booked for our wedding next summer.  We have the environmental learning center from September 5-8th so mark your calendars!  We will wed on September 7th (a year from yesterday).  (I loved this sign on Peaks Island)

A walk in a Maine woods...

We are staying with Adam's dad and his wife right now in North New Portland- about 2 hours north of Portland and out in the woods.   We did a few short hikes today and as you can see, saw a lot of interesting things in the woods today.  We even found a good amount of edible mushrooms.  The "hut" is one of three that a Maine nonprofit (funded by LL Bean and New Balance shoes) has built out in the woods.  They are planning to build 12 in total and you can get lunch or dinner (or beer) there or you can stay the night in a cabin for $100.  It was a beautiful day to be outside!

Hanging out on Peaks

Adam's good friend Aaron and Kelly live on Peaks now and only about a quarter mile down the road from his mom's house.  They just had a baby girl, Zoe, 6 weeks ago and she is precious.  It's been great getting to spend so much time with them this trip!
