Wow! Adam and I decided to make a mission out of seeing monkeys today. We did some research and took a bus out to a trail head we thought would have monkeys and they were literally AT THE BUS STOP. We saw HUNDREDS of monkeys today! It was crazy. And a little scary. We hiked a little ways down a trail covered in monkeys and then we ran into this guy (above) in purple who was obviously feeding the monkeys (which is strictly forbidden) and then we decided to turn around (the monkeys were getting really active- shaking trees and making a lot of noise).
We read that they can be aggressive- one monkey did show its teeth to Adam and seem a little spooked, but for the most part, they were really docile and not afraid of us. I had no idea it was going to be so easy to see monkeys! Apparently they are a bit of an invasive species here- even though they are native to Southern China, people let them go in this area we were at today- because they were building a water reservoir and there were some poisonous plants near the water that monkeys will eat- the locals seem completely unfazed by there presence.
Finally! You can check that off your list.
