The Year of the Dragon

The year of the dragon is supposed to be a lucky year to have kids, get married or start a business.  The new years lasts 3 days- during which you are not supposed to clean your apartment or wash your hair (it'll wash away your good luck).  Everyone does a deep-clean of their houses before the new years (all the laundry places are FULL- our laundry is going to take a week to be done).  Lots of people are wearing red (or gold) and you're supposed to wear new clothes over the new years.  You're also supposed to pay off any debts and eat certain lucky foods- like these Chinese new years cakes made of rice.  

You are NOT supposed to: break anything, buy shoes, use knives or scissors or mention death...

    So for heavens sake, don't break scissors in a shoe store while wearing a black arm band.

    So I see the students there used scissors to cut out their dragons. Does that mean they're going to have an unlucky year?
