Mid Autumn Festival

Today was my first national holiday in Hong Kong, the mid-autumn festival. People eat moon cakes and light lanterns at night and it's a full moon. You're supposed to spend the evening with your family and the next day there is no work/school. We don't have school tomorrow, but we're going in anyways to get organized.

There's a big celebration in a park, which we went to, but it was super crowded and we didn't stay long.

Here is a moon cake. They come in all sorts of flavors, but there is supposed to be something round in the middle- traditionally a cooked egg yolk. This one had locus seeds- and was pretty good.

  1. I like this festival - no gift buying! I guess it's on the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. And I can't really tell how large the mooncake is - is that one serving or two?

  2. We split it 3 ways. They come in lots of sizes, but that one was pretty big

  3. I got an email from my brother's Chinese fiancee about this holiday and I had no idea what she was talking about with "enjoying moon cakes under the lights." Now it totally makes sense!

RSA has been interesting... I promise I'll send you a nice long email about it in the near future since things are still crazy right now. Both Pavel and Amaya have left since the beginning of the year but we've gotten some super cute kids, too.

  4. I can't wait for an RSA update. I keep thinking about Alex and Alana learning Chinese! (Because it's going to be really really hard). Do you know if they are doing that school?
