Saturday Shopping
Angela told me about another park right by our apartments, so I checked that out this morning. It's across the street from a gigantic public swimming pool that we're hoping we can get into. I really got into the culture of Hong Kong today and spent my whole saturday shopping... There are SO many malls here and it seems to be how people prefer to spend their time. My mission was to track down the familiar today, IKEA and H&M, which was successful. Then I went to a movie (in a mall, of course). There's assigned seating at the movies here and the seats are really, really nice. Saw "Midnight in Paris" (Woody Allen) which came out a while ago in the states- Hong Kong gets American movies a little late (Bridesmaids is also playing right now- might have to give that a re-watch). Tomorrow I think I'll venture across the water to the Kowloon side of Hong Kong- there's an underwater subway- but you can also take a boat, bus or taxi. I went to that side to see the light show, but haven't seen it in the day yet.
Fun Fridays....
Today it was "Fun Friday" for both teachers and students. The kids had a great time pinning places they're been on our new wall map- man these kids have been all over the globe! They couldn't even remember all the places they've been! Angela and I went swimming at this great beach after work. I bought cheap floaties- and the water was so warm- it was amazing! I could go swimming every day (and a lot of people do- mostly older men in speedos)... Notice the "shark net" around the beach...
Beach
Last friday we went to this beach which is RIGHT by our work. I've never swam in warmer ocean water- it was amazing! Tons of windsurfers at this specific beach. The signs in Hong Kong bring me endless amusement. Although I couldn't stop thinking about sharks while in the water (even though there's shark nets around the beach)...
