Patience

Nine and a half weeks left of work and I'm trying to be patient.  It's hard when you use a daily chart because you can see how many weeks are left with every program you run.  I'm also trying to keep positive attitude at work and to not let it consume me during my commute.  (Angela and I successfully did NOT talk about work today on our commute- which is key).   We are taking the boys on a field trip this Friday to Kadorie Farms which is going to be awesome and I'm looking forward to it.  We're hoping to find some tadpoles to "adopt" as part of our life-cycles unit for May.

Some funny signs

a little passive-aggressive?

pretty sure there's some gambling going on...

My favorite bus sign: don't bring bombs, poison or broken glass on the bus!

I never get tired of funny signs here!

Lamma Island Hike

cuttle fish!

Betsy and I had a great time at Lamma Island while she was here.  This is easily one of my favorite places in Hong Kong!  Betsy even ran into people she knew from Maine on the island!  How crazy is that?  What was a special treat was that we got to see some Chinese Opera- which is preformed in honor of the Tin Hau Festival each year in Spring.  They construct a whole outdoor building in different parts of Hong Kong where there is a fishing community and they preform for the goddess of the sea (Tin Hau).  I learned about it at opera appreciation class so I was excited to see it happening.

Heather's Here!

The convention center is in a cool building with a great view

Heather's upgraded amazing hotel room

Heather and her coworker Dana

Well Heather has had an eventful trip to China so far. Her original hotel CAUGHT ON FIRE at 3am Saturday night!  They had to evacuate and were stranded in their pajamas for hours before being able to check into a new hotel- which is actually WAY nicer!  Probably the nicest hotel I've ever been in actually.
I went with Heather and her coworker to the housewares trade show this morning which was really interesting.  Then we went to Hong Kong Park and saw the birds and conservatory.  They are off to mainland China tomorrow morning, but Heather will be back next weekend to stay with me!

Betsy's Visit

Adam's mom, Betsy, just left this morning after spending a week with me.  We had a great time and she really enjoyed Hong Kong. It is so nice to have visitors!  We had a great weekend together last weekend while the weather was cooperating.  We went hiking and visited Lamma Island (and even swam in the ocean) but the rest of the week was really really rainy.  However, she still managed to get out and do a bunch of stuff while I was at work.  And she bought this awesome rainbow umbrella which I now get to keep :)

Rainy Season

It has been SO rainy (thunder and lightning too)!  I saw all these critters today as I was walking to work, apparently they like to come out after a rain storm.  Aren't the slugs here weird looking?

Baby Wooly Mammoth

Yep.  I saw a baby woolly mammoth today.  Its on display at the mall.  Apparently someone found this in-tact mammoth in an iceberg.  There's quite a hype around it right now in Hong Kong.  (and it was free too!)
